Halloween 2012
Halloween in Western Eden usually produces cold and rain, but our streak of rain-free trick-or-treating sessions in Portland continued to three in a row. It rained much of the day, but the clouds broke for a few hours in the late afternoon and made life much more pleasant for our boys, who dressed up as follows:
I had taken the afternoon off of work so I could photograph the older boys' class parties at school, and afterwards we drove them to a couple of friends from church who lived not near enough for the boys to trick-or-treat, and both of whom are Ian's teachers in his nursery class. The first woman had just seen her son off on a two-year mission (meaning, she won't see or talk with him during that time, even though he will be a close drive away in Salt Lake City), so I think it pleased her to have three boys invade her house, even if only for an hour.
Traditionally, Meg would take the boys out early to a few of her friends' houses, return home, and send me out to supervise the bulk of the evening. But she changed her mind, as sometimes happens, and we left a big bowl of candy on our porch and escorted the boys together. The boys always talk big at the beginning of the night about how long they say they will stay out, but their bags filled quickly, their level of fatigue rose, and we were home not much after 8:00 p.m. Meg and I split time carrying Ian, as he shut down, as expected, before we made it back home.
- Edward: Luke Skywalker Bespin
- Aaron: Some kind of clone trooper from the Star Wars expanded universe
- Ian: Maverick from Top Gun, although he got mad when you called him that and insisted he was a "fighter pilot."
