Edward Visits the ER

Our First Visit to the ER
Fortunately it was only for a "minor" illness that Edward caught that drove Meg to take him to the Salem Hospital Emergency Room at 3:00 a.m. Friday morning. He had been sportin' a fever last week, but it came back with reinforcements late this week--topping out at a crispy 104.7 (KDUK style--on a side, another nice thing about living in Salem is that we get reception for radio stations in both Eugene and Portland). So Meg took Edward while Aaron and I slept the last few hours of the night. Selfless Meg tried her best to make it home before 6:00 a.m.--and she did--so I could play basketball with my friends like I always do on Friday mornings. Meg unanimously won the prize for best lead mom in the role of nursing a sick child back to health.

From my perspective, Edward took the whole thing in stride; he lost his appetite (he eats like a king who just collected his taxes), clung to Meg every second he could, and didn't sleep very well at night, but if I had a fever as high as he did I would have been much more irritable. He still wanted to play, run around outside, go on walks, and the usual stuff. Fortunately, by Sunday morning his fever had dissipated, and he was laughing and cheerful again. But let's see how he sleeps tonight . . .

Ducks Win
Aaron and I had a great time Saturday night. I turned on the Ducks football game on the radio in the garage, and we listened to the first half of the game while he rode his bike and I rode the razor scooter around our driveway, chasing after one another, trying to steal each others life energy (not sure where he picked that up, but that boy is always thinking up amazingly creative stuff). After putting him to bed, I finished listening to the game while reading the New Yorker; Meg watched War of the Worlds and thought that was how the Second Coming was going to be like--without the aliens and spaceships and Tom Cruise, of course :)
Anyway, next week's game against Oklahoma should be awesome; Meg's brother Jared has tickets to the game, so I'm somewhat jealous (he's not exactly a fan--Meg's whole family sides with the Beavers--but he works in Eugene now and is entertaining potential clients).

Paul's Sendoff Sunday
We weren't planning on attending Paul's mission farewell on Sunday, on account of Edward's illness, which Meg also started feeling, too. But we changed our minds at the last minute, and I got the boys ready within 15 minutes, and we were out the door (and we made the trip to Sherwood--even with an untimely detour--before the opening prayer). I tended to Edward for the majority of the meeting, but he actually fell asleep early on in the program, so I was able to listen for once; and even though I was in the back of the gym, the sound system worked perfectly (plus there were no noisy kids back there). I was very impressed with Paul's words and testimony, and have no doubt that he will have great success in Ghana. I recorded his talk and will try to post it here once I work out any technical difficulties
