Coming out of the Closet

Not that I've ever tried to hide my liking of the Trailblazers, I've decided that it is time to announce officially that I am a fan and have been ever since I was young, so people don't confuse my apparent sudden liking with the blazer's latest round of good fortune. I've never camped out in the rain for tickets (pre-Rose Garden and jail-blazers), have only been to about five games total, and haven't followed them that closely, I've always been a fan and wished them well. I watched them on TV a lot this year, whenever I wasn't in school. Even though they lost a lot of games, it was exciting to see them play hard and and compete as a team.

I've read and listened to the Blazer's GM (Kevin Pritchard) a lot, and I have a feeling--and I totally agree with him--that he will pick Durant over Oden. Or, possibly, the Blazers draft will Oden and trade him to Seattle for Durant and a future draft pick. I have watched both players (although only a couple of games, mind you), and I don't see what people see in Oden. Sure, he's a hulking giant, but he doesn't do a whole lot. Durant is like superman on the court; he does everything and does it better than everyone. The Blazers already have two decent centers, but they lack a true small forward and a scorer. With Aldridge, Roy, and Durant running up and down scoring dunks and threes, other teams will have a hard time keeping up. I know 80% of the world thinks that Oden is a god and that you would be insane not to draft him first, but what about Olowokandi (oh my who)? I watched him play in Logan against the Aggies, and he was certainly good (but his team lost to the whities from the mountain tops--go Aggies!), and he was drafted first overall that year, but where is he now? So come June 28, I'm predicting that the Blazers end up with Durant. Of course, KP and crew might uncover something during their evaluations to make them change their minds--but you heard it from me first, a month before it actually happens . . . Welcome to Portland, Mr. Durant.
