BabyWatch2009 Begins

Monday, April 6
10:55 p.m.: Ian's here. 8 lb. 9 oz., 20". He and Meg are fine and on speaking terms after this terrible labor.

10:00 p.m
.: Meg is now 7 or 8 cm dilated. Contractions are right on top of each other. And she's screaming out in pain during every one.

8:45 p.m
.: Meg is now 5 or 6 cm dilated. All is still going well.

6:45 p.m
.: The doctor broke her water; everything looked good, so we hope this will speed up the contractions.

6:30 p.m
.: Meg has her epidural in. She is in labor but still 4 cm dilated.
This will probably take all night and possibly into the early morning.

2:30 p.m
.: The doctor declared Meg to be 4 cm dilated and in labor, so we've now checked into a labor/delivery room with a nice view of Mill Creek and the Capitol.
You wouldn't believe the relief on Meg's face when she received this good news.

11:45 a.m
.: We're at the hospital again, hoping and praying with fervor that
the third time is the charm.

7:00 a.m
.: We enjoyed the last few days of warmth and sunshine walking around town and taking care of the normal weekend activities. Meg couldn't sleep at all Sunday night/Monday morning, and she thinks something may have changed. So we might be in for a visit to the hospital soon, but please don't call or get your hopes up. Trust me: you'll find the latest news here and nowhere else.

Thursday, April 2
7:00 a.m.: We don't really have anything new to report, other than my team lost in the championship game of church basketball, in part because I couldn't make my free throws. I went into the office yesterday for the first time since BabyWatch2009 began to take care of some things I just couldn't complete while working remotely. My absence seemed to wear Meg out more than lately, so I hope she can rest more today. Other than going downtown to sign some load refinance papers, she should be able to take it easy.

Wednesday, April 1
7:00 a.m.: Meg went to her scheduled doctor's appointment yesterday afternoon. She learned that she hasn't progressed any since Sunday. Her doctor also said that she could be induced as early as Easter Sunday (April 12th), if she hasn't delivered by then. Though still experiencing great pain from the nagging contractions, she has a glimmer of hope knowing that she needs to endure this for no more than 12 days.

Monday, March 30
6:30 a.m.: We went to the hospital again last night, as Meg felt her contractions were becoming stronger. She is now dilated to about 3 cm, but she does not appear ready to give birth yet. So we came home around midnight. She has a doctor's appointment on Tuesday afternoon; I hope she can bear things until then.

Saturday, March 28
6:00 p.m.: The boys came back from their cousins on Friday afternoon, but Meg hasn't really seen any change. We spent a few hours walking around Lancaster Mall and Toys 'R' Us this afternoon. Meg feels better when she is walking, but the contractions are still present and painful.

Friday, March 27
8:30 a.m.: Last night we ate spicy Indian food, walked around Salem Centre, and watched a semi-scary movie (Knowing), but none of it appeared to cause any change. Meg's contractions are still 2-3 minutes apart, non-stop, with no relief in sight.

Thursday, March 26
10:00 a.m.: What we learned from the ultrasound:
  • The baby is still a boy.
  • The baby weighs approximately 7 pounds 13 ounces. If he were born today, he'd be the smallest baby for us, as Aaron and Edward were both in the 8 pound range.
  • Everything looks fine.
Meg is continuing her attempt to walk the baby out, but there are still no signs of anything changing.

7:00 a.m.:
We dropped the kids off at Meg's sister's house in Dallas last night; it's Spring Break
and they offered to watch the kids for a few days as part of the debt they felt they owed after we took care of their kids while they were in Hawaii last year. Meg's sleeping peacefully and has an ultrasound scheduled for sometime today.

Wednesday, March 25
3:00 p.m. Please do not call and ask if Meg has had the baby yet; this frustrates her and reminds her of the great pain she is experiencing. Just check here on the blog or my Facebook status. I promise to provide updates as things happen.

1:00 p.m.: Meg has returned from her doctor's appointment, where she learned she was 1.5 cm dilated, much to her disappointment. Her mother is here and they went to Wal-Mart to walk around. She also has an ultrasound appointment tomorrow, where they should be able to more accurately determine how big and developed this critter is now.

11:00 a.m.: Meg is at her doctor's appointment. She said the her contractions--while still regular--feel different (stronger, perhaps?). So long as the baby is healthy enough to join us, I hope that the doctor will notice that Meg has dilated and is ready to deliver. I will update with any news here and on Facebook.

7:00 a.m.: No change, no update, no baby.

Tuesday, March 24

11:00 a.m.: Meg noticed the bloody show this morning. For the other two boys, this has proved to be a very revealing sign. But she's still 3.5 weeks early.

Monday, March 23
9:55 p.m.: UPDATE--The doctor has examined and excused Meg from the hospital. It's not happenin' tonight, folks. Maybe in another week? Maybe tomorrow?

8:45 p.m.: UPDATE--Looks like I'll be taking Meg home soon. She's having regular contractions, but she's not showing any other signs of being ready to deliver.

7:30 p.m.: I'm sitting next to Meg in the Triage Room at Salem Hospital. She's experiencing great pain, having regular contractions, and is thinking the baby might make an appearance tonight. Check back often for updates, or just watch my Facebook status.
