Movie BS with Bayer and Snider

You might label this entry as extreme navel gazing, but I listen to a local, online radio show that broadcasts every Friday at 11:00 a.m. Pacific: Movie BS with Bayer and Snider. Eric and Jeff's show is centered around movies--what's new, what's coming, and other various happenings. In Episode 10, they called out to their audience to submit answers to their question of the week; I couldn't think of a good answer for their first question, but I've faithfully replied to every question thereafter. You can listen below to the parts of the show where they discuss my submission. I will upload clips from future shows in this post, so if you like examining my navel as much as I do, come back every week to see what color the lints is.

I must credit Meg for introducing me to Eric D. Snider. She remembers reading his newspaper column when they were both students at a certain university, and she suggested that I would like and appreciate his work, since he seems to critique movies in a fashion similar to me. Eric now happens to live right here in Portland, which makes it all the more fun.

Episode 16 (7/16/2010): What movie let you down the most? I listened to the entire episode, anxiously waiting for them to talk about my submission, and they didn't bring me up at all--which was a first. I felt so disappointed, until they were getting ready to close the show and brought me up--I knew they couldn't resist.



Episode 17 (7/23/2010): What books did you read as a kid? Meg writes in for the first time and feels the rush of euphoria when Eric and Jeff reference her on the air. Barefoot Mike gets a shout-out as well (as controversial as ever).


Episode 18 (7/30/2010): What movie did you flip flop on? I didn't get a mention. So disappointing, until you realize they devoted half the show to an important guest interview over the phone.

Episode 19 (8/6/2010): What's your favorite cop movie? They also briefly describe our encounter at Ground Kontrol.


Episode 20 (8/13/2010): What is your favorite guy movie? Also, Eric validates me.


Episode 21 (8/20/2010): What film disturbed you the most? I don't care for scary movies anymore, so I took a different angle with my answer. I also included Eric's battle with ants, as we've also experienced this quite a bit this year.

I don't think I've been on a true backpacking trip before. Back in high school, my friend Bart and I planned a multi-day trip to Carl Lake, but we ended up turning around after one night of camping at Cabot Lake because it was raining so much and we'd rather stay at his family's cabin instead. 10 for Ed

The free-spirited, high-flying Edward has reached the golden age of 10. His teasingly-fun birth prompted me to begin this blog , so kudos to him for that. I was happy to spend the evening of his birthday dining on fried fish and mixed fruit at Red Robin and watching the Trail Blazers (his favorite player, Robin Lopez, also shares the same birthday) lose a frustrating game to the Clippers, a team who I hope ends up meeting the Blazers in the playoffs. I marvel at the potential I see in Edward and think he can impact the world in a big, positive way. He remains highly-sensitive to the needs of those around him, and is always free with time and money and sharing his things with others. He started playing the drums in the after-school band, and he continues to be a master video game player. Camping and Hiking at Mt. St. Helens

Mt. St. Helens was beckoning us the whole trip I had planned on taking a vacation day the day before Meg and I were to begin our celebration of 15 years married to each other, but Meg suggested just working through the day as she had class all morning and her job to attend to in the afternoon, and then taking the next Friday off and take the kids to the pool or something. The pool? Nah, I wanted to do something memorable, something they would remember for years to come. While that may seem like a tall order for my boring-routine lifestyle, I think I may have actually pulled it off. Back to that conversation with Meg about going to the pool, I voiced my interest to go to Mt. St. Helens and camp and go on all-day hikes.
